yay, long weekend. time to relax before i remind myself on monday that i have spanish exams next week. i’ve had a look at the other sites people have uploaded into their blogs. a few of them are really good i think, they look really professsional. with some of the other ones i tried to get into the links didn’t work. i know i had a bit of trouble uploading my site so i guess some people are still struggling. one thing that i did notice that i thought was kind of funny is that everyone has the same picture of ‘Dexter’. i could find no picture of him on google and no information whatsoever about an artist called ‘Dexter’. maybe he is imaginary? I don’t remember seeing him at Stonefest last year. Anyone? He has a cool afro though, whoever he is.
home sweet home
The Real End
I’m finished!!
I found the HTML validator quite interesting actually. By the end i could see the mistakes in my page before i put the pages in the validator. I’ve used a free subdomain (host-ed) to upload my site. Was a little bit confusing at first but it didn’t take too long.
Here it is:

goodbye blog theme
goodbye blog development
goodbye website
hello doctors and nurses
The End
Hoooooooooooooooooooooorayyyy!
Finished my blog theme aswell. It wasn’t as hard as i expected. Mind you, I have never done so much copying and pasting in my whole life. I don’t mind blogging but it’s something that you have to be really dilligent about it you want people to be interested in your blog. I have been photographing smarties for another subject im doing, Graphic Design 2.1, so i used one of those photos for the background and went from there. I like how my theme looks. It’s extremely bright but in a good way i think. I’ll upload the link for my website tomorrow. Looking foward to holidays but looks like i wont be getting a holidays from HTML or CSS. My Mum wants me to design a website for her business during the holidays. I’m just glad i actually know how now. I honestly never thought i’d get these assignments done in time. And to think this website was meant to be due 3 weeks ago, wow! Buenas Noches.
I thought i’d put a video on, trying to put up some different kinds of posts that use the tags ive specified in my blog theme. Everyone else seems to be looking at this video lately and i couldn’t think of anything better to put on so i thought this one will do. I feel pretty sorry for the girl actually.
almost done
It’s Wednesday the 3rd of June and amazingly, i’m almost finished. Blog theme is pretty much finished. Just a few things i need to change so i’m pretty sure i’ll get everything in on time. I think this has been a good unit, everyone i’ve talked to has said they hate webdesign, html etc but once you understand it it’s not so frustrating. I’ll definitely use the skills i’ve learnt this semester in the future.
more web design
I have finished my website! Except for one tiny thing which i just can’t figure out how to do. I’ll get Geoff to help me and then it will be ready to upload. I had a feeling i might change my mind about webdesign, and i did. I actually had fun doing this assignment if you ignore all the times i couldn’t figure out how to fix something for a whole day and then realised i was missing one set of these things -> ” or ; . Blog theme should be simple but the amount of stuff the themes have on tumblr is mindblowing, its like a different language. Hopefully i’ll get it done though. $90 of our assesment for GDT due on one day, how fun!
I’ve spent so much time on assignments lately that i never really get the chance to make my own things on CS3 but this is something i did in the holidays.
16/05/09
I think i’m finally getting hang of CSS. About time really. Only thing i need to figure out is how to put in youtube vidoes/google maps etc. There are a few things i’d like to add but probably dont have the time of skills to do. But overall, i think my website has turned out how i imagined it would. I really need to start my blog theme though.
This is what i do instead of my website when i get sick of it.
Learning Web Design
Have the textbook. It’s probably the most confusing thing i’ve ever tried to read.
Easter
Today is Easter. I haven’t started my website. Have to wait to uni goes back and then i’ll go and get the textbook. I don’t think i like designing websites. Now when people say “What do you want to do when you finish uni?” instead of saying “I don’t know” i can say “Not design websites”.
DESIGN REFERENCE
The 5 sites i have chosen are posted below. Clicking on any of the screen shots will take you through to that website. I would like to use some of the same characteristics from these websites when i create my Stonefest website.
1. LARGE EYE CATCHING HEADING
All of these websites contain a large eye cathing heading at the top of the page. Usually on the left hand side. The best example is probably Dusty Days website which has a large, bright block lettered heading on the top left hand side of the page.
2. COLOURS
These websites all use mostly flat, bright colours. Not so much the Organic website, but it still has a strip of red across the screen and red is also used in the background for the logo. I especially like the colours in the Dusty Days and Lovepins website. I think when you start to use too many colours it can make the website a bit confusing.
3. SEARCH BAR
The Webdesigner, Lovepins and Organic website all contain a search bar at the top right hand side of the page. I like the seach bar in this location, its easy to find because is where it is located on most websites i’ve seen. A search bar makes finding the information you’re looking a for a lot easier and quicker.
4. BLOCK/GRID STYLE LAYOUT
Each of these websites uses a grid style layout. It is probably more prominent in the Dusty Days, Lovepins and Organic website but you can see that a simple grid would have been used for every website.
5. HEADINGS AT THE TOP
This is probably the most obvious design feature linking these 5 sites together. The navigation headings are at the top of the page and then the information follows below under the headings.
6. VECTOR GRAPHICS
Excepting the Organic website, all of these sites use vector graphics somewhere. The most obvious is the Webdesign website which looks like it’s been done in illustrator. Lovepins and Team Green websites also use a small amount of vector graphics in the corners of the website.
7. REST FOR THE EYE
All of the websites i’ve chosen contain a rest for the eye somewhere on the homepage. This is a crucial part of any design. The rest for the eye can be seen on the bottom of the Webdesigner and Dusty Days pages, the background of Team Green and Lovepins and the black area of the Organic website.
